Jackson Teece was engaged by Carrington Care Grasmere to provide full architectural services. With a broad spectrum of independent and assisted living facilities, this peaceful, semi-rural site is a welcoming community for all.

The hilltop site enjoys expansive views over the surrounding countryside and is located in an area of well-established landscaping. Our design gently curves around the hilltop, harmoniously following the contours of the natural landform to minimise the impact on existing trees, and at the time of construction, it helped limit excavation while taking advantage of the changing levels.

When considering our design, much inspiration was drawn from the adjacent heritage-significant Carrington Centennial Hospital. Built in 1890, this landmark provides a window to the past, and so with our contemporary planning for the new structure respectfully taking nods from its neighbour, a genuine link between new and old was formed.

The core of the design is two courtyards on differing levels – one serving High Care, the other, Low Care. The inclusion of glazed circulation spaces allows natural light and ventilation deep into the heart of the building, while providing a secure outdoor environment to be enjoyed by the residents.
