2018 UDIA NSW Winner Excellence in Aged Care –
Flames Trees for Thomas Holt at Kirrawee, NSW
Completed in 2018, Jackson Teece was charged with the master plan strategy for the redevelopment of the Residential Aged Care project at Thomas Holt, Kirrawee. This saw the transformation of the existing Seymore Shaw Court independent living units into a modern, 120 bed aged care facility. The project was a key social initiative, aimed at addressing a longstanding community need for aged care in the Sutherland Shire community.
Additionally, the building now houses a broad range of updated amenities, including a cafe, hairdresser, physiotherapy rooms and multi-purpose spaces, as well as centralising key worker facilities like the site kitchen and laundry.
A golden opportunity for design and public needs to intersect, the redevelopment at Thomas Holt delivered a high standard RACF to the local community. The design is a contemporary yet considered response to the site and surrounding built environment. And ultimately, the flexibility and amenity designed into the building ensures that it will be an asset to the community well into the future.
Jackson Teece acknowledges the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first place makers and Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live, work and learn.
